How Private Chat Works on Harbor-1
How Harbor-1 keeps a conversation private, and what changes only if you choose to share it.
A private AI chat is a promise about the prompt. The message is for the model in front of you. It is not a log for a later training run, and it is not a row in someone else’s product analytics.
Harbor-1 runs open-weight models on GPUs Harbor rents and runs itself, so a prompt never goes to a closed AI lab. Chats travel over TLS 1.3 and are stored with AES-256, and a private chat is never used to train a model. That is the whole of the default. You talk. The model answers. The chat stays yours.
Earn is a second decision, and it is off until you turn it on. When it is off, nothing about the conversation is offered as data. When it is on, you still choose what to share. Harbor pays in USDC or Harbor API credits for those conversations only. A chat you did not share is not a dataset, and turning Earn on does not reach backward into chats you already had in private.
That split is the part worth reading slowly. A lot of private chat products stop at inference. They are good at the conversation and they stop being useful the moment you want the work around the conversation to have a licence, a payment, and a record of consent. Harbor is built so the private chat and the paid share are different states. One does not quietly become the other.
The same account can also record real work. Photos, video, and speech from a task you accept are a different product from the chat. They are reviewed, and you are paid for what is accepted. A buyer who licenses that material gets the file, the task, and the consent record. None of that is inferred from a prompt you typed in private.
If you only want a consumer chat with the widest menu of models, including ones that refuse very little, Harbor-1 is not trying to be that app. Venice is built for that session. Harbor-1 is built for a session that stays private, with a separate, explicit step if you later decide a conversation is worth sharing.
Harbor-1 is the chat. Collect is the paid capture work.
